Readers Theater is a style of theater in which the actors present dramatic readings of narrative material without costumes, props, scenery, or special lighting. Actors use only their scripts and vocal expression to help the audience understand the story. This "performance of the voice" does not require memorization.
SAGES Theater developed this 8-session program to encourage exploration of the theater arts at local senior centers. There is no charge to participate in these workshops.
This year, participants will read submitted scripts from local Tampa Bay playwrights and offer their feedback in a collaborative process.
A performance of selected pieces takes place
at the conclusion of the workshop.
S.O.A.P.S. is an opportunity for SAGES to discover and collaborate with local playwrights on developing short skits/plays (from 5-15 minutes) on a variety of aging topics. Writers can submit any number of their original scripts including new and previous works. Following the Play with Purpose philosophy, writers will be encouraged to use wit and humor to hop onto the proverbial 'soapbox' and briefly spotlight safety education within their script.
This unique platform gives new, emerging and accomplished writers a space to workshop new ideas and have their work produced by SAGES in a final showcase. Playwrights may be invited to collaborate further with SAGES as a result.
