***We are casting TWO different Plays with Purpose***

Come one, come all to our SAGES OPEN Auditions! Experienced actors and newbies all welcome. We have roles for those mostly age 50+ — lots for 60+, a couple for 40-60, and ONE for a young female (to play age 12-15). Auditions include cold readings from our scripts. If you are new to SAGES and have a resume/headshot, please bring it with you. DEAL MAKER

  (about safe driving & maintaining indepedence)

A man is caught in the middle when his wife wants the car keys taken from his aging father. With no tickets in his lifetime of driving, Pop disagrees. But after some minor fender-benders, he becomes the Deal Maker to keep them

hush-hush with his granddaughter as co-conspirator in this comical Play with Purpose. 

Characters (range from young teen to 60+):
Bob: Elderly widower, cantankerous, argumentative, except with his granddaughter.
Mae: Bob’s older sister, pleasant, follows the rules, keeps little brother on his toes.
Matt: Son, busy criminal defense attorney. resistant to confront Bob to give up keys.
Ashley: Granddaughter (appears under driving age). Thinks her parents are old-fashioned and unfair compared to her friends’ parents and adores her grandpa.
Laura: Mid-age, Matt’s office manager. Her sassiness gets her “fired” regularly.
Rhonda: Mid-age, nurse, tries to befriend Bob, with great patience.
Curly Top: Walk-on role for older woman.

MEMORY LANE

(about Caregiving for those with cognitive impairment)

Living with memory loss is not for the faint of heart. This poignant collection of true stories reveals the roller coaster of emotions experienced while caregivers navigate this unexpected journey with those they love. Relatable characters will have audiences laughing out loud and thoughtfully savoring the satisfying moments when unique challenges are met with success.

Characters (range from mid-age to 60+):

Liz: Compassionate caregiver training facilitator who loves helping others

Nick: Retired restauranteur who is worried about wife being caregiver for her sister

Nora: Nick’s wife who is concerned for her older sister living alone

Nikki: Nick & Nora’s daughter who is a busy social worker

Danny: Reluctant but long-term caregiver for his father

Ralph: Caregiver for his spouse who he married late in life

Mary Martha: Ralph’s childhood friend and new wife who is clueless and sweet

Father O’Brien: Catholic priest who has known Ralph & Mary Martha their whole lives

Jane: Retiree whose mother lives with her and doesn’t know how to ask for help

Anna: Jane’s online therapist

Ken: Retired, protective caregiver whose spouse is now in memory care – caregiver training facilitator

Play with Purpose production, GRANDMA ROCKS, in October. Open auditions for that production will take place in July.

DIRECTIONS to Auditions: Temple B'nai Israel is located on Belcher Rd between Belleair Rd and East Bay Dr. Look for the SAGES signs to turn east on Kersey Rd and enter the parking lot BEHIND the Temple. We will meet in the back all-purpose building. (There will be no access to the front of the Temple building, so do not park or try to enter there.)
